Roots

An original poem based on Jeremiah 17:5-8

If life were full of constant rain

and there was never any pain

Our roots content in shallow ground

Would stagnant grow, no life found

But bring a year of rainless drought

the trials that trouble inside and out

those roots will stretch to depths below

and search for streams where waters flow

The Christian will see: the deeper the root,

the more he bears the spiritual fruit

And when the Lord seems not so near

The heart that trusts will have no fear
